DISTRIKT Statement on Burning Man 2020 and COVID-19

In response to the Burning Man organization officially cancelling the 2020 Black Rock City event, we want to address the larger Burner community on the status of DISTRIKT. Understanding that the cancellation was likely, the DISTRIKT team has been discussing this reality for several weeks in anticipation of this outcome. While we are all disappointed by this news, given the current global status of COVID-19, we fully support the decision of the Burning Man organization, as it is the safe and responsible decision.

While DISTRIKT will still continue to operate as an 501c3 non-profit organization throughout 2020, we do not feel it is appropriate to plan events until the crisis has subsided and it is safe for us to gather again in large groups. We will be focusing our near term efforts on how we can use our reach to bring the community together during this crisis in both social and philanthropic ways, including online events and discussion groups. DISTRIKT will continue to accept donations to operate our organization, as well as plan for the future - including a return to the playa in 2021.

Remember that we are all fighting this together. Please continue to practice social distancing, support first line workers and local businesses, and reach out to friends, relatives and vulnerable populations who may need help or support. How we come together and make decisions now will impact our lives for the rest of 2020 and beyond.

Please stay safe and take care of each other. We look forward to connecting with you virtually in the coming days and weeks.
